In this work, a woman whose parents immigrated to Canada from East Asia, who was born and raised in Canada, and received a Canadian history education reads the following two influential stories regarding the culture of remembrance about the history of World War II in East Asia.

The first book, “The Rape of Nanking” by Iris Chang, is about the atrocities committed by the Japanese Army during the fall of Nanking, the then capital of the Republic of China. The second book, “The Complete Story of Sadako Sasaki” by SASAKI Masahiro, is about a girl who died of leukemia caused by radiation from the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima when she was 12-years-old.

This work was realized as part of an exhibition project “They are Lying” on political conflicts arising from historical perceptions in East Asian countries.
